LAS VEGAS November 2008

Lee and Shirley, friends from Lake Wildwood, bought a Marriott time-share just a block off the Las Vegas "strip," and invited Mike and Sandy to join them as their guests for a week. The location was great, and as a bonus, we got to watch construction on the new City Center project (13 buildings, all going up at once -- talk about bad timing!!).

Of course the guys had no idea (wink, wink) that this particular week happened to be when the big air show was being held at nearby Nellis Air Force Base. We saw the Thunderbirds demonstration team, lots of acrobatic flying, lots of planes on the ground (this is the F-22 Raptor, a new "stealth" fighter plane), and even a precision parachuting team.

But the air show lasted only two days, so we had to turn our attention to other types of shows, such as these four. (That's Cirque du Soleil's "O" and a group impersonating Frank Sinatra, Dean Martin, Sammy Davis Jr., and Joey Bishop at the bottom.)

Of course we also had some gourmet meals (the Mesa Grill at Caesars Palace being maybe the best), enjoyed the animated musical fountains in front of the Bellagio, and saw all the other architectural sights. (The new Wynn hotel's lobby is going to be impressive!)
